Chicken Noodle Soup in a Jar: a Cheap Healthy Meal

This Chicken Noodle Soup recipe is a cheap healthy meal and a tasty treat for a chilly winter day. Makeup 3 or 4 chicken noodle soup in a jar and have them on standby in the pantry for an easy meal.  They also make a great gift!

Everyone loves a cheap healthy meal of a bowl of chicken noodle soup. This recipe includes chicken, garlic, egg noodles, onion, and other spices. Great for a gift or a make ahead meal!

My family always loves this in the winter and the best part is that this cheap healthy meal is so fast to get ready!  It is especially nice to have around when someone is sick and needs some soup to help them feel better.  Soup is a miracle worker like that!  Makes your insides feel better when you just want to lay on the couch and veg.

We also love these other soups for cold and sick days!

This is a great recipe for left over chicken on the bones or for a cold day! also a great milk chicken soup for sickness!

Don’t forget to attach a  handwritten tag with cooking instructions for the recipient. This makes a really large pot, cut recipe in half for a pint-sized mason jar if you want a smaller portion. Top your jar with a small piece of fabric and tie on a tag with ribbon or raffia to complete it.

Chicken Noodle Soup in a Jar: a Cheap Healthy Meal

Ingredients

1-quart mason jar with lid and ring
2 cups egg noodles
3 Tbsp. dried onion flakes
3 Tbsp. chicken bouillon granules
1 tsp. Dill weed
1 tsp. Celery seed
1 tsp. Celery seed

Instructions

  1. Mix all seasonings in a bowl
  2. Place noodles in a mason jar, scoop all seasonings over noodles, shake jar to settle spices at the bottom.
    Cooking Directions
  3. Bring 14 cups of water to a boil. Add in contents of the jar, cover, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Add 2 ½ cups of mixed vegetables, and 2 cups of cooked chicken to stockpot. Let simmer for an additional 10 minutes to heat through.

    14 cups of water sounds like a lot. Can you confirm that this is correct?

    1. It is correct, but I would add it slowly. If you like a stronger taste you may not want as much.

    Would this fit in a pint size jar?

    1. I think you could do a pint size version of it. It would probably need the amount in each jar cut in 1/2. Maybe a little less than 1/2, but it could work for sure!
