Once A Month Cooking

I have never done this myself.  We have never had enough freezer space. It is something I would love to do in the future though.   If you are interested in finding out more about once a month cooking, Mom’s By Heart has put together a fabulous post about how to get started cooking like this for your family. Does anyone have any experience with this or is anyone interested in trying it out??  I would love to hear some comments about it and I may look into it more and we can do it together!

  1. I have never formally done once a month cooking, but I have done a form of it. I have taken about 10 lbs of ground beef, put it in a big kettle to cook, and used about 5 lbs to make tator tot casseroles, in 8×8 foil pans, and froze those. Then I took the other 5 lbs and put them into freezer quart bags. Each bag holds approx 1 lb. I marked those and put them in the freezer. Then, if I wanted to make hamburger helper or something, I had the meat already ready to go!

I would love to see some more info on it, though, so I am going to click on the link you provided! Thanks! 🙂

  2. 2 of my cousins, my aunt and grandma are all in the same ward and they do this in a slightly different way.
You choose one meal to make, times it by the number of people in the group and make it that many times. Then everyone gets one of each meal to put in their freezer and the recipes are sent via email.
It makes things so much easier for them, they get to save by buying in bulk and they get to try new meals all the time.
