It is October and that means it is time to get out your pumpkin and make some yummy recipes with it! I can’t go through the month with at least making one thing that has pumpkin in it. These frugal pumpkin squares recipe is one that will become a classic pumpkin recipe in your home. It will be one that you make each year because it is so good but also very easy to make!
This is a great sweet and healthy treat. One that could be used for Halloween or thanksgiving get togethers.

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 sticks unsalted softened butter
- 1-1/4 cups sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven 350-degrees;Grease a 9×13 baking pan and set it aside.
- In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla until combined, then add in the pumpkin
- Mix in the dry ingredients until the mixture is creamy, but thick. Fold in the chocolate chips – the milk and dark play very nicely with the pumpkin!
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for about 35-40 minutes until the sides start to pull away from the sides.
- Cool completely in the pan.
- Refrigerate overnight in the pan.
- Cut the bars in the pan and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
These are a great for making with the kids. They get to practice measurements and baking skills while spending quality time with you!
